AWAL MUSIK UNDERGROUND ALIAS INDEPENDEN




sekilas-rock-underground.jpgKelahiran scene musik rock underground di Indonesia sulit dilepaskan dari evolusi rocker-rocker pionir era 70-an sebagai pendahulunya.

Sebut saja misalnya God Bless, Gang Pegangsaan, Gipsy (Jakarta), Giant Step, Super Kid (Bandung), Terncem (Solo), AKA/SAS (Surabaya), Bentoel (Malang) hingga Rawe Rontek dari Banten.
Mereka inilah generasi pertama rocker Indonesia. Istilah underground sendiri sebenarnya sudah digunakan Majalah Aktuil sejak awal era 70an. Istilah tersebut digunakan majalah musik dan gaya hidup pionir asal Bandung itu untuk mengidentifikasi band-band yang memainkan musik keras dengan gaya yang lebih liar dan exstrem untuk ukuran zamannya. Padahal kalau mau jujur, lagu2x yang dimainkan band- band tersebut di atas bukanlah lagu karya mereka sendiri, melainkan milik band-band luar negeri macam Deep Purple, Jefferson Airplane, Black Sabbath, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Kansas, Rolling Stones hingga ELP.

Tradisi yang kontraproduktif ini kemudian mencatat sejarah namanya sempat mengharum di pentas nasional. Sebut saja misalnya El Pamas, Grass Rock (Malang), Power Metal (Surabaya), Adi Metal Rock (Solo), Val Halla (Medan) hingga Roxx (Jakarta). Selain itu Log jugalah yang membidani lahirnya label rekaman rock yang pertama di Indonesia, Logiss Records. Produk pertama label ini adalah album ketiga God Bless, “Semut Hitam” yang dirilis tahun 1988 dan ludes hingga 400.000 kaset di seluruh Indonesia.

Menjelang akhir era 80-an, di seluruh dunia waktu itu anak-anak muda sedang mengalami demam usik thrash metal. Sebuah perkembangan style musik metal yang lebih ekstrem lagi dibandingkan heavy metal. Band2x yang menjadi gods-nya antara lain Slayer, Metallica, Exodus, Megadeth, Kreator, Sodom, Anthrax hingga Sepultura. Kebanyakan kota2x besar di Indonesia seperti Jakarta, Bandung, Jogjakarta, Surabaya, Malang hingga Bali, scene undergroundnya pertama kali lahir dari genre musik ekstrem tersebut.

UNDERGROUND VS IDEALISME

Kata underground periode tahun 90-04 sempat naik daun, dan jadi basis sayap kiri bagi kalangan musisi independen. Di Bandung basis kelompok musisi indie, kata underground diterjemahkan sebagai bawah tanah, dengan arti khusus kebebasan buat berkarya.

“Kami menyebut underground sebagai spirit bermusiknya. Di Bandung underground nggak ada yang istilah paling hebat. Jadi, semua bersaing. Semua memiliki kubu dan massa masing-masing. Beda dengan di Jakarta, dulu ada satu grup yang menjadi pimpinan underground. Di Sukabumi juga begitu, kata salah satu penyiar Radio MGT FM Bandung. Karena kata underground sering diartikan salah kaprah, maka bagi sebagian musisi, kata underground diartikan sebagai band-band pembawa lagu-lagu keras, “wah yang ngomomg kayanya blom lulus buat jadi musisi nih” tapi buat banyak musisi lainnya, underground bisa diisi segala macam jenis musik, selama mereka belum masuk pada major label.

Banyak band2x yang sekarang bernaung di major label, background aslinya adalah band indie juga. toh buat mereka ga ada masalah dengan penggemar panatik mereka ketika masih band indie, apa yang dicapainya sekarang adalah titik kesuksesan berkarir, soalnya kita sedang di dalam ruang lingkup rezeki kalau memang kita bisa masuk ke major label knapa ngga kita manfaatin semaksimal mungkin bukan berarti indie label ngga ngejanjiin masa depan yang bagus. ini tinggal soal peluang yang harus atau ngga diambil sama sekali.

Aliran musik dalam underground bisa sangat beragam, mau yang load voice, midlle voice sampai yang kalem pun itu bisa, yang penting semangat dalam pembawaan nya aja yang jangan di lupain. soalnya semangat / spirit ini lah yang paling penting “UNDERGROUND SPIRIT”. ambil contoh, ketika kita mendengarkan beberapa buah lagu : return of zelda-system of a down, enter sandman-metallica dan american idiot-green day. Yang kita tahu ke tiga lagu tsb sama2x load voice, sama2x dimainkan dengan peralatan musik yang ga jauh beda jenisnya, tapi kalo kita telisik lebih dalam pasti ada banyak perbedaan yang mencolok dari ke tiga nya, apalagi kalo bukan pembawaan ama spiritnya. Hal ini juga lah yang dapat membedakan jenis musik dan aliran apa yang mereka mainkan. Begitu pula dengan undergound, klo selalu di deskripsikan dengan musik yang keras, tentunya itu salah besar.

Namun memang underground lebih dekat dengan jenis musik metal. Jenis musik ini memang jauh dari incaran perusahaan rekaman besar yang, yang biasa disebut major label. Bahkan ada pendapat agak ekstrem, “Kalau band indie masuk major label, pasti konsep bermusiknya jadi beda, karena harus disesuaikan dengan pasar, dan tak dapat beridealis ria lagi.

Pendapat inilah yang ditolak oleh Beng-Beng, Jun Fan Gung Foo dan Noin Bullet dari Bandung. Noin Bullet yang memainkan musik ska-core, awalnya memang indie label, namun kini masuk lingkaran major label Warner Music Indonesia. “ Tapi musik kami tak berubah. Semua lagu yang kami jual dengan indie label, langsung diedarkan lagi oleh Warner, dengan label Warner Music Indonesia. Tanpa berubah, tanpa didikte siapapun, “ kata Chairul, gitaris Noin Bullet. Bersama Beng-Beng, ia curiga, jangan-jangan anak-anak indie banyak iri, karena Pas, Noin Bullet dan beberapa band indie lainnya bisa masuk major label, sementara mereka belum. http://www.newsmusik.net/

Ngomong2x soal idealisme, sebagian besar band2x indie mengusungnya baik dalam karya lagu, pementasan bahkan ada yang membawa idealisme tersebut dalam kehidupannya sehari - hari. Macam2x jenis idealisme yang di usung band2 indie tsb, diantaranya : Idealis terhadap isu anti kemapanan, Idealis terhadap isu anti major label, Idealis terhadap isu sosial, politik dan ekonomi bahkan ada yang lebih extrem yaitu Idealis dengan atheisme atau tidak percaya terhadap adanya Tuhan. Cuman untuk point yang ke empat ini kita akan sangat sulit untuk menjumpainya.

Banyak band-band indie yang sejak awal sudah idealis salah satunya alergi sama major label, dan tak mau menawarkan lagu2x karyanya ke sana. Padahal banyak contoh menarik tentang band-band indie yang masuk major label, seperti Netral, Pas, Jun Fan Gung Foo dan Sucker Head.

Berikut adalah sebagian kecil band2x indie asli made in bandung yang mungkin dapat gw inget, yang eksistensinya masih dapat kita jumpai :

Akhirnya, dalam keluarga underground alias independen itu, ada jenis musik yang beragam : industrial-techno, hardcore, brutal death metal, punk, hardrock, ska, alternative, black metal dan lainnya.


UNDERGROUND VS INDIE

Indie Indonesia Era 2000-an

Bagaimana pergerakan scene musik independen Indonesia era 2000-an?

Kehadiran teknologi internet dan e-mail jelas memberikan kontribusi besar bagi perkembangan scene ini. Akses informasi dan komunikasi yang terbuka lebar membuat jaringan (networking) antar komunitas ini semakin luas di Indonesia. Band-band dan komunitas-komunitas baru banyak bermunculan dengan menawarkan style musik yang lebih beragam.

Trend indie label berlomba-lomba merilis album band-band lokal juga menggembirakan, minimal ini adalah upaya pendokumentasian sejarah yang berguna puluhan tahun ke depan. Yang menarik sekarang adalah dominasi penggunaan idiom indie dan bukan underground untuk mendefinisikan sebuah scene musik non-mainstream lokal. Sempat terjadi polemik dan perdebatan klasikmengenai istilah indie atau underground ini di tanah air.

Sebagian orang memandang istilah underground semakin bias karena kenyataannya kian hari semakin banyak band-band underground yang sell-out, entah itu dikontrak major label, mengubah style musik demi kepentingan bisnis atau laris manis menjual album hingga puluhan ribu keping. Sementara sebagian lagi lebih senang menggunakan idiom indie karena lebih elastis dan misalnya, lebih friendly bagi band-band yang memang tidak memainkan style musik ekstrem. Walaupun terkesan lebih kompromis, istilah indie ini belakangan juga semakin sering digunakan oleh media massa nasional, jauh meninggalkan istilah ortodoks `underground’ itu tadi.

Ditengah serunya perdebatan indie/underground, major label atau indie label, ratusan band baru terlahir, puluhan indie label ramai- ramai merilis album, ribuan distro/clothing shop dibuka di seluruh Indonesia. Infrastruktur scene musik non-mainstream ini pun kian established dari hari ke hari. Mereka seakan tidak peduli lagi dengan polarisasi indie-major label yang makin tidak substansial. Bermain musik sebebas mungkin sembari bersenang-senang lebih menjadi panglima sekarang ini.

GETAH


GETAH terbentuk pada 1996. Kelompok asal Jakarta ini merupakan salah satu pelopor kawin silang antara Metal/Goth/Alternative di skena musik cadas Indonesia. Di awal kemunculannya Getah banyak dipengaruhi oleh Jane’s Addiction, Testament, Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, serta Motley Crue.

Setelah beberapa kali gonta-ganti personel pula sekumpulan demo, mereka memperoleh kesempatan bergabung dengan label mayor, Warner Music Indonesia. Album penuh perdana bertajuk Getah yang terbit pada 1997 tersebut direkam di Jakarta dengan mixing/mastering di San Fransisco, AS.

Dengan formasi Jodie Gondokusumo (vokal), Marcel Marcive (bas, vokal latar), Beoy Feisal (gitar) serta Tyo Nugros (drum—menggantikan Reeve yang cabut ke AS beberapa saat sebelum album dirilis), selain sempat tampil di beberapa konser, juga berhasil merilis videoklip berjudul Api.

Tak cuma tenar di kalangan bawah tanah sebagai band Indonesia pertama berpenampilan Goth-Industrial serta aksi panggung + fashion yang khas, Getah juga mahsyur dengan keterkaitan kuat mereka dengan alkohol dan obat bius yang notabene berperan besar memunculkan friksi serius antar personel. Datangnya bencana cuma tinggal menunggu hari.

Benar saja, Beoy Feisal, gitaris eksentrik lagi brilian, meninggal secara mendadak pada senja 1998. Peter St. John, pemain keyboard yang sering membantu Getah, diminta mengisi posisi gitar utama. Tak lama sesudahnya, Tyo Nugros, pamit untuk bergabung denga Dewa 19.

Dalam kondisi bongkar pasang penggebuk drum, Getah pada 2001 sempat juga melahirkan mini album berformat kaset berisikan 2 lagu, Green Wine dan Missing. Pula, di tahun yang sama, satu tembang mereka, Closing Chapter, disertakan dalam soundtrack film “Gerbang 13″. Di periode ini juga pemain keyboard jazz ulung bernama Adra Karim direkrut masuk Getah.

Sengkarut ke berikut datang menyambut. Entah kebetulan entah sudah takdir, Closing Chapter bak sengaja ditujukan bagi Jodie Gondokusumo. Lagu tersebut tercatat menjadi lagu terakhirnya. Jodie wafat pada 2002 setelah pergumulan panjang dengan kondisi kesehatannya. Diterpa carut marut begitu maut, Getah memilih vakum dulu untuk sementara.

Seraya menjalani fase “bersih bersih” dari obat bius beserta laknat sejenis, Marcel Marcive berinisiatif mengambil alih posisi biduan sambil tetap bertanggungjawab pada bas. Sementara Agung Cakra Menggala diserahi tugas di departemen drum. Kongsi ini sempat menjelajah beberapa panggung di Yogya, Bogor & Jakarta.

Di paruh akhir 2005, Oddie Octaviadi (gugus depan Syc Minded), pulang ke Indonesia setelah menghabiskan setengah hidupnya di AS. Lewat beberapa pertemuan non-formal dan sejumlah pertunjukan dengan menjadikan Oddie sebagai biduan, Getah pelan tapi pasti lahir kembali.

Oddie, Marcel, Peter & Agung, bahu membahu menulis lagu baru, merombak ulang tembang lama, serta merestrukturisasi manajemen band. Materi anyar yang dikerjakan sepenuhnya di studio milik SoundX milik Peter, Release Is Peace, akhirnya dirilis pada Juni 2008 via label indie, Off The Records/Bravo Music. Namun sejenak setelahnya, Agung memutuskan mundur. Dan sang drummer legendaris mantan Pas Band, Richard Mutter, masuk menggantikan.

Tak cuma debut album Getah yang dianugerahi kehormatan sekelas “150 Best Indonesian Albums of All Time”, oleh majalah Rolling Stone Indonesia Release Is Peace diberi respek tinggi sebagai salah satu dari “10 Most Important Albums of 2008″.

Konser ini sukses menyedot sekitar 2000 orang penonton dan hingga sekarang menjadi festival rock underground tahunan di sana. Either
alumni Total Uyut yang sekarang sukses besar ke seantero nusantara adalah band punk asal Kuta, Superman Is Dead. Mereka malah menjadi band punk pertama di Indonesia yang dikontrak 6 album oleh Sony Music Indonesia. Band-band indie Bali masa kini yang stand out di antaranya adalah Navicula, Postmen, The Brews, Telephone, Blod Shot Eyes
dan tentu saja Eternal Madness yang tengah bersiap merilis album ke tiga mereka dalam waktu dekat.

Memasuki era 2000-an scene indie Bali semakin menggeliat. Kesuksesan S.I.D memberi inspirasi bagi band-band Bali lainnya untuk berusaha lebih keras lagi, toh S.I.D secara konkret sudah membuktikan kalau band `putera daerah' pun sanggup menaklukan kejamnya industri musik ibukota. Untuk mendukung band-band Bali, drummer S.I.D, Jerinx dan beberapa kawannya kemudian membuka The Maximmum Rock N' Roll Monarchy (The Max), sebuah pub musik yang berada di jalan Poppies, Kuta. Seringkali diadakan acara rock reguler di tempat ini.

Indie Indonesia Era 2000-an

Bagaimana pergerakan scene musik independen Indonesia era 2000-an? Kehadiran teknologi internet dan e-mail jelas memberikan kontribusi besar bagi perkembangan scene ini. Akses informasi dan komunikasi yang terbuka lebar membuat jaringan (networking) antar komunitas ini semakin luas di Indonesia. Band-band dan komunitas-komunitas baru banyak bermunculan dengan menawarkan style musik yang lebih beragam. Trend indie label berlomba-lomba merilis album band-band lokal juga menggembirakan, minimal ini adalah upaya pendokumentasian sejarah yang berguna puluhan tahun ke depan.

Yang menarik sekarang adalah dominasi penggunaan idiom `indie' dan bukan underground untuk mendefinisikan sebuah scene musik non- mainstream lokal. Sempat terjadi polemik dan perdebatan klasikmengenai istilah `indie atau underground' ini di tanah air. Sebagian orang memandang istilah `underground' semakin bias karena kenyataannya kian hari semakin banyak band-band underground yang `sell-out', entah itu dikontrak major label, mengubah style musik demi kepentingan bisnis atau laris manis menjual album hingga puluhan ribu keping. Sementara sebagian lagi lebih senang menggunakan idiom indie karena lebih `elastis' dan misalnya, lebih friendly bagi band-band yang memang tidak memainkan style musik ekstrem. Walaupun terkesan lebih kompromis, istilah indie ini belakangan juga semakin sering digunakan oleh media massa nasional, jauh
meninggalkan istilah ortodoks `underground' itu tadi.

Ditengah serunya perdebatan indie/underground, major label atau indie label, ratusan band baru terlahir, puluhan indie label ramai- ramai merilis album, ribuan distro/clothing shop dibuka di seluruh Indonesia. Infrastruktur scene musik non-mainstream ini pun kian established dari hari ke hari. Mereka seakan tidak peduli lagi dengan polarisasi indie-major label yang makin tidak substansial. Bermain musik sebebas mungkin sembari bersenang-senang lebih menjadi `panglima' sekarang ini.

VIERRA


Although the musical background of each personnel tend to vary, but common vision, and a big desire to ngeband, unite them. Yes. Band digawangi by Widi (vocals), Kevin (keyboards), Raka (guitar), and Trian (drums), was finally advanced to the recording industry.

Their initial meeting to be one unique story VIERRA. Kevin and Trian who've temenan long enough, last year met with Raka, through Friendster! Yes, the site that friendship that brought them. After meeting with Raka, they could hear the chanting voice of Widi, through MySpacenya page.

Satisfied chat friends through the site, they finally decided to ngeband together. In fact, the background music of each different from each other personnel.

"I learned music through classical music. But, getting back here, I'm more interested in the music industry. Starting from the local mainstream bands, local indie band, until the Japanese bands, I listened to, "said Kevin.

Others with Trian that loves to play jazz from the first. Jazz who also met with Trian drums. Until finally decided to be a drummer. While Widi and not much different from Raka. Ranging from classic rock, alternative rock to be an option.

We've accumulated, they immediately decided to focus on the industry. Do not wear long, they went straight into the studio. And brought their music recognized as a pop Disney. "It was the mid-point of our music still. No kepikiran, and not contrived special concept really, "I Widi.

ZIGAZ band


ZIGAS is a beginning and end of the journey of 5 personnel. Rama, Azis, Randy, Ebi and who had undergone Zian career in music for life. ZIGAS has bound them in a friendship and also limits the music. ZIGAS own name begins and ends with the final letter of the alphabet Z, suggests that this was their final journey in the music world, this is the shade of their art work. Meanwhile, the Iga itself represents an important symbol in a human body, as an important element in the underlying framework of human bones.

With that meaning, the five young children are expected to be a shade ZIGAS they work can be valued by audiences. Fifth personnel began pledged ZIGAS this name on June 19, 2006.
